Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Readable mobile application ("the App"), operated by Dakota Swain, based in Queensland, Australia. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Your Account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. In Australia, users under 16 may have restricted access to social features in compliance with the Social Media Minimum Age Act. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must not share your account with others or create multiple accounts.

2. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Post content that is abusive, hateful, threatening, sexually explicit, or illegal
• Harass, bully, or intimidate other users
• Impersonate another person or entity
• Share content that infringes copyright or intellectual property rights
• Use the App for spam, phishing, or commercial solicitation
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the App's services
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the App

We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms without notice.

3. Content You Create

You retain ownership of content you create (posts, reviews, comments, reading notes). By posting content publicly, you grant Readable a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, distribute, and promote that content within the App.

All user content is subject to automated moderation. Content that violates our community guidelines may be removed without notice.

4. Community Guidelines, Reporting & Moderation

Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. We do not allow hate speech, harassment, threats, sexually explicit content, content that sexualises or endangers minors, promotion of self-harm or suicide, impersonation, spam, or any other objectionable material. Violations result in content removal and may result in permanent account termination.

Reporting objectionable content and abusive users. Every post, review, comment, and user profile has a Report option accessible from the three-dot menu. Submit a report and our moderation team will review it within 24 hours. Reports are confidential — the reported user is not notified who submitted the report.

Blocking. You can block any user at any time from their profile. Blocking hides their content from you and prevents them from seeing your content or interacting with you. Blocks are mutual-direction and take effect immediately.

Our enforcement commitments. We commit to: (a) acting on reports of objectionable content and abusive users within 24 hours; (b) removing content that violates these Terms; (c) ejecting users who repeatedly or egregiously violate these Terms; (d) preserving evidence and reporting to appropriate authorities any content involving child sexual abuse material, credible threats of violence, or other illegal content.

5. Book Data and Third-Party Content

Book metadata (titles, authors, covers, descriptions) is sourced from Google Books API and Open Library. This data belongs to its respective rights holders. We do not claim ownership of book metadata.

Affiliate links to bookstores (Amazon, Bookshop.org, Booktopia, and others) are provided as a convenience. Purchases made through these links are governed by the respective store's terms. We may earn a commission from purchases made through affiliate links, at no extra cost to you.

6. Readable Pro Subscriptions

Readable offers optional premium subscriptions with additional features. Subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Payment, renewal, and cancellation are governed by the respective platform's terms.

• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device's Settings > Subscriptions
• Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by Readable directly
• We may change subscription pricing with 30 days notice

7. Intellectual Property

The App's design, code, brand, and original content are owned by Dakota Swain. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App without written permission.

8. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the App will be available at all times, error-free, or that data will never be lost. We are not responsible for the accuracy of book metadata sourced from third-party APIs.

We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third-party bookstores linked through the App. Prices displayed are not guaranteed to be accurate or the lowest available.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Australian law, Readable and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including loss of data, reading history, or account information.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.

10. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time via Profile > Delete Account. This permanently deletes all your data. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Queensland, Australia.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via an in-app notification. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
